Roebling Road - 03.10.02 (video of start- RealPlayer)
first race of 2002 - first time at track - first National race!
RR is in Bloomingdale/Pooler GA, about 25 miles from Savannah. This National contained a field of great drivers. A new track record was set (1:19.8) and ten guys were under 1:20! Simply amazing.
Aside from a mishap a the start (so what else is new), the race went off without a hitch. Throughout testing and qualifying, i continually improved and set my best lap of 1:22.8 during the race. I ran a good, solid, if slightly un-agressive race and i brought the car home without a scratch. (They new paint job - see below - has to go. Awful color.).
One 'learning experience' consisted of my being DQ'd on saturday for being 6 pounds light (1664 lbs.). They weighed the entire SRF field, and oops. Thus i had to start at the back of the pack. That cost 7 positions, i think. It wouldn't have mattered given the competition, but it would have been nicer to finish mid field.
I installed in-car video, and racing radio for this event. I may put the start of the race up on video.
i finished 27th (of 35; results here http://www.buccaneer.scca.org/results02.html, Race 2). Upon reviewing the video, i spent waaaayyyy too much time getting past 3 cars. And two errors resulted in my allowing them to pass me. With this and the DQ, i think i had a chance at a mid-pack finish. Next time.
