Laguna Seca Historics & Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance
First off, a fabulous weekend!
This was my first time at Laguna Seca and what a track!
Dramatic elevation changes combined with some of the most beautiful
historic racing machinery is an irresistible combination.
After the fog burned off, we had (too much) sunshine for
all the races. Parked ourselves in
the Ferrari Owners Club tent for lunch, car watching, and general discussion
with the west coast club guys. We
then watched many of the races from different track locations.
We stayed for the last race (1966-1983 FIA Grp. 4, 5, 6, & IMSA Cars) and watched it from the
infamous corkscrew and boy was it dramatic.
During the various ceremonies, and while ogling the cars,
Burt Levy (of The Open Road series) came on the PA system to hype his 3rd
book, released that weekend (incidentally, he was also running a car at this HSR
event). So, naturally, we had to
get the book and chat with him about his enjoyable series.
He will be at the Glen in September and we got to share thoughts about
VIR, the Glen and elsewhere.
Sunday. Unfortunately,
the weather never really cooperated, bringing us a gray day with mild temps.
Too bad because the field of cars was quite spectacular.
Various features included a Maybach grouping, racing Jags, and V16
Cadillacs! The Ferrari group was
none too shabby either! See the pics.
Anyway, the sushi picnic could have been better with a bit of sunshine, but otherwise a fantastic event. I can see how these rich guys get into this!
